The baseball was signed by a total of six players, but none more eye-catching than Mahomes’ – who put ‘#5′ next to his signature. The Kansas City Chiefs star and his high school teammates signed the ball during the 2013-14 season – his senior year.

The piece was discovered at a thrift store in Rockwall, Texas in February. Rockwall is a nearly two-hour drive from Mahomes’ hometown, Tyler, where he played football and baseball for the Whitehouse High School Wildcats in his teens.

The ball has since landed on Leland’s auction block with two bids placed at the time of this writing. The starting bid was $2,500 with the highest bid currently at $2,750.

With 12 days left in the auction, the ball is projected to sell for at least $10,000, per TMZ.

Despite immense success in football, this is not the first time Mahomes’ baseball memorabilia hit the auction market.

In 2020, another baseball signed by Mahomes and his high school teammates during the 2013 season sold for $6,510.

Mahomes is currently enjoying the NFL offseason after leading the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl and third title in five years. The quarterback also received his third Super Bowl MVP trophy.

Although his days in the diamond are behind him, Mahomes remains close to the game as a part owner of the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball.
