Who do Luke Bryan, Ryan Seacrest think should replace Katy Perry on ‘American Idol’?

Luke Bryan and Ryan Seacrest are all about one songstress replacing Katy Perry on “American Idol.”

During interviews with Entertainment Tonight, the country superstar and longtime “Idol” host confessed that Perry’s pop star peer Meghan Trainor could take her place.

“I think Meghan’s always been real fun. You know, that’s kinda been her brand, to have fun,” Bryan told ET. “(She’s) real witty, so certainly.

“Meghan is a super talent too, and she’s got a great sense of humor. She’s fun and she’s spontaneous,” Seacrest added.

Perry announced on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in February she will exit the ABC reality singing competition show after seven seasons amid a “very exciting year” while teasing a possible music comeback. The “I Kissed A Girl” singer released her last album “Smile” in August 2020.

On Monday’s episode of “Idol,” Trainor guest starred as a mentor to help prepare the Top 12 to perform their Billboard No. 1 hits before viewers cut down the dozen contestants to the Top 10.

Richie said that Perry’s replacement has got to “be fun, but no ego because we’re (going to) insult each other so much.”

Televised talent competitions like “American Idol,” “The Voice” and “Britain’s Got Talent” have launched a bevy of music stars over the years. But what about the singers they passed over? Turns out, some of them have had even more successful careers than these shows’ winners.

Take Maren Morris, for example. The Grammy-winning country artist revealed on Instagram that she auditioned for “American Idol” back in 2007 but “didn’t make it past the first round cattle call.”

She shared the story along with a picture of her audition ticket, which her mom saved through the years. “I wasn’t really into sports growing up but this feels like the equivalent of your mom saving your 10th place trophy,” Morris wrote. The singer added in her Instagram Stories that the “Idol” decision-makers “passed on me in 5 seconds.”
