Swift was criticized for ignoring Dion while accepting Album of the Tear.

This year’s Grammys saw the return of Celine Dion. After taking a break from the limelight after being diagnosed with Stiff Persons Syndrome, Dion presented Taylor Swift the Album of the Year award for Midnights at the 2024 Grammys. Viewers were taken aback by Swift seemingly ignoring Dion when grabbing her award. Now, Dion has said she was unfazed by the pop star’s behavior.

“It was very nerve-wracking, but at the same time, a big honor,” the “My Heart Will Go On” singer said of being asked to present at the Grammys in a recent Vogue France cover story. “That magic. That excitement. To see the fans, to see the crowd. To see show business again.”

Across videos from the moment, Swift takes the stage in disbelief and gives all of her closest friends and collaborators hugs. The “Anti-Hero” exclaimed “oh my God!” and grabbed the award away from Dion, without giving her eye contact or acknowledging her presence before delivering her acceptance speech.

“It took a lot, a lot out of me,” Dion said. “But my son, René Charles, RC, came and gave me his support. And to present the award, the album of the year, to Taylor Swift, it was an honor because she’s having the time of her life and I’m the one who’s presenting it to her. But it’s always very, very touching when you have a standing ovation.”

After their moment on stage, the pair posed for photos with each other, with Swift hugging the powerhouse singer and resting her head on Dion’s shoulder.

Elsewhere in Dion’s latest interview, she gave an update on her Stiff Persons Syndrome and whether she plans to return to the limelight soon.

“I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready … As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months.’ I don’t know … My body will tell me,” she said. “On the other hand, I don’t just want to wait. It’s morally hard to live from day to day. It’s hard, I’m working very hard, and tomorrow will be even harder. Tomorrow is another day. But there’s one thing that will never stop, and that’s the will. It’s the passion. It’s the dream. It’s the determination.”
