While Swifties were watching, waiting and desperately hoping for any kind of reference to the singer on Jake Gyllenhaal and Sabrina Carpenter’s Saturday Night Live episode — preferably one about the scarf she supposedly left at Maggie Gyllenhaal’s house — SNL did not appear to deliver. Or did they?
While neither Jake nor Carpenter made any mentions of the actor’s past romance with Swift, “All Too Well”-related or otherwise, some fans pointed out that there may have been a hidden “13” in the episode — representing the “Maroon” singer’s favorite number and one she has repeatedly used as an Easter egg herself.
Jake’s entire monologue and parody of Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road” was about the fact that he was hosting the finale of season 49. Not the first episode of season 50, he pointed out multiple times, but 49. Fans immediately connected the dots.
“4+9 is 13 which is why he’s hosting #SNL one final time,” a fan tweeted on Saturday.
Another person had the same train of thought.
“4 + 9 is 13,” a second social media user wrote, this time on SNL’s Instagram post of Jake’s monologue. The fan punctuated their message with a shrugging emoji.
