Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has offered some advice to Harrison Butker over his controversial speech at a college graduation in Kansas, earlier this month, as he let the turmoiled Chiefs kicker know that ‘whatever you’re going to say, you better believe it.’

Speaking to reporters after Miami’s third OTAs session of the week on Wednesday, McDaniel looked uncomfortable at first when asked whether he ‘encourages’ players to talk about their ‘political stances’ among themselves, or if he tells them to ‘leave it out of the building.’

Butker, 28, made a commencement address for the Class of 2024 at Benedictine College on May 11, saying most women receiving degrees were probably more excited about getting married and having kids than forging their careers. He also referred to a ‘deadly sin sort of pride that has a month dedicated to it’ in an oblique reference to Pride month and criticized both the Catholic Church and U.S. President Joe Biden for its ‘dangerous gender policies’ and views on abortion, respectively.

‘Well… I’m glad you asked,’ McDaniel, 41, said sarcastically. ‘I think you do have to open the eyes of the players to their platform if they’re new to the situation. I think you have to understand that what you say publicly can be fragmented and last with you forever.
