When Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department dropped on Friday, April 19, Scrub Daddy was ready. And Swifties can’t get over the sponge company’s “elite marketing” move.
Scrub Daddy—which took off after founder Aaron Krause pitched the product on Shark Tank in 2008—took to Instagram immediately after TTPD dropped on Friday. “scrub daddy (Taylor’s version) #ttpd #scrubdaddy,” the message read, alongside a carousel of black-and-white photos featuring the sponges.
In the featured photo, a Scrub Daddy sponge with a smile warped into a scream sat on a plate of dishes. “Old habits die screaming,” text overlain on the image read, a nod to Swift’s new song, “The Black Dog.”
The second picture showed a still-smiling sponge with the lyrics, “I love you, it’s ruining my life.” Meanwhile, the third image showed a grimacing sponge next to the message, “Am I allowed to cry?”

In the comments, Swift fans reacted to the creative mashup they didn’t know they needed. One person wrote, “ok scrub daddy i see you😭😭😭,” while another Instagram user encouraged, “Cry all you want scrub daddy!”
Someone else commented, “Elite marketing team…ELITE!!🥹🤌🏽🤌🏽,” and another wrote, “Scrub Daddy’s a Swiftie too?? 💜💚💛❤️”
Yet another Swiftie quipped, “But [Scrub] Daddy, I Love Him ❤️🩹,” a reference to Swift’s new track, “But Daddy, I Love Him.”
Meanwhile, the official Instagram account for the fast food restaurant Carl’s Jr. commented, “this is a work of art.”
Another Swift fan declared, “This might be the second best thing I’ve seen today 😂🤭 the first of course being @taylorswift BRAND NEW album that I have had on repeat ALL day! 🤍 @taylornation.”
