The NFL Today is headed to a new era.

The Athletic‘s Andrew Marchand reports that former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason will not be coming back to the network’s pregame coverage in 2024.

Boomer Esiason ended his 22-year tenure on the pregame program when he revealed on Monday’s WFAN radio broadcast that he will not be returning to CBS in the autumn.

The former NFL quarterback may be out on The NFL Today show, but he is not entirely going away as he also signed a multi-year contract extension with Audacy that will keep him in morning drive on WFAN, a slot he inherited with Craig Carton after Don Imus exited in 2007, both for the radio show and the CBS Sports Network simulcast.

Aside from the news on Boomer, Phil Simms was also out, and recently retired NFL quarterback Matt Ryan will indeed be on the network’s pregame show. Ryan will be joined on set by host James Brown, Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, and J.J. Watt, on a part-time basis.
