Breaking:Zara Tindall ‘wiped blood from seat at England match after husband Mike broke up fight’
Zara Tindall wiped blood from a seat at Wembley Stadium after her husband, Mike, broke up a fight between England fans during the historic final when the Three Lions were beaten by Italy on penalties , it was claimed. Gareth Southgate’s men triggered wild scenes of celebration inside a packed Wembley when defender Luke Shaw scored an early goal. However, Italy came back into the match and equalised in the second-half, with the two sides needing a penalty shootout to decide the tournament.
Zara and husband Mike Tindall were among the crowd and the ex-rugby star was said to have stepped in after a spectator was punched during the historic game. The unidentified man was sitting near the couple when just before kick off he had his nose broken during a fight in scenes of ‘absolute mayhem’.
A source told The Sun: “Tensions had got a bit heated near to where Zara and Mike were sitting because it had got quite crowded. Two fans ended up in a punch-up and Mike had to step in to save the day. He stood between them and pulled them apart before stewards could get them under control. Unfortunately some blood ended up near Zara and she had to use a tissue to mop it up.”
There were chaotic scenes in and around Wembley Stadium as large groups of ticketless fans forced their way past stewards at the ground with many staying inside while the game went on, causing disruption with paying match-goers. Zara wasn’t the only royal at the match – her cousin Prince William, his wife Kate and their son Prince George were among 60,000 fans packed into the stadium as the men’s national team took part in its first major final in 55 years.
England’s early lead, putting them 1-0 up just two minutes into the first half and prompting ecstasy from the crowd including a beaming Prince George, 7, as William punched the air and hugged his son. But fans were left devastated when the nation’s dreams of being crowned champions of Europe in front of a home crowd at Wembley Stadium were crushed in the final seconds on Sunday night.
