Exclusive:Desperate Taylor Swift fans fork out hundreds to rent designer outfits for Sydney Eras Tour shows – including dresses the star has worn: ‘Worth every cent’
Australian Taylor Swift fans have spent hundreds of dollars to rent their Eras Tour concert outfits for the night.
Clothes hire sites have been overrun with fans who want to recreate iconic Taylor looks or slip into their favourite era for the show.
Amna, from Sydney, forked out $345 to rent the famous Clio Peppiatt Night Lucina dress which retails for $3,589 – and it’s the same one Taylor wore for her 34th birthday party back in December.
The 28-year-old office worker was ‘over the moon’ when she found the item for rent on The Volte because she never would’ve been able to afford it otherwise.
‘I’m wearing the dress to the concert on Friday and I don’t know what I would’ve done without it,’ Amna told FEMAIL.
Taylor Swift fans have been scrambling to source unique and topical outfits for the shows.
Many have resorted to making their own clothes and DIY bedazzling boots in preparation for the concert.
Amna shared that renting the dress for the night made more sense than buying something new.
‘I’ve been wanting it since I saw it on Taylor months ago, and it’s too expensive for me to buy outright.’
The Volte co-founder and CEO, Bernadette Olivier told FEMAIL: ‘Taylor Swift rentals are going bananas. Everything sparkly, sequined, fringed and feathered is flying out as groups of friends and family are going all out for the concerts.’
She revealed that there’s been a 300 per cent increase in sequined and tulle items – with over 5,000 Australians renting Eras-inspired looks for the tour.
Designers like Dion Lee and Retrofete are particularly popular among young fans after Taylor was spotted in their ensembles.
‘It’s really exciting that people get to have the joy of fashion in a sustainable way,’ Olivier said. ‘Instead of looking for a cheap imitation online, you can wear what Taylor actually wore for a fraction of the price.’
Brisbane university student Brittany, 20, makes up to $30k a month renting out her wardrobe on The Volte.
Brittany told FEMAIL there’s been a ‘massive spike’ in demand for her clothes during the Eras Tour weekends.
‘Fans from Western Australia, Tasmania, and pretty much everywhere have shown an interest in my dresses,’ she said.
‘It’s been really crazy. A lot of my clothes are sparkly and sequinned – which makes them ideal for concerts.’
