Exclusive:Taylor Swift Shattered Beyoncé’s Streaming Record In Only A Matter Of Hours
Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department was always destined to enjoy a massive welcome on streaming platforms. Less than a day after it was released, the set has already broken an important record—one which few could have predicted she’d shatter so quickly.
According to Billboard, The Tortured Poets Department has already earned the honor of being the album with the most streams in a single day on Spotify so far this year. The streaming platform confirmed the news to the music industry-focused outlet.
The report didn’t state a number of plays, but it must be massive. Before The Tortured Poets Department arrived, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter stood as the title with the most streams in a single day. That project scored its lofty debut just a few weeks ago.
Amazingly, The Tortured Poets Department hasn’t even been out for a full day. The album has already become the most-streamed title in a single day, but it only needed fewer than 12 hours in which to hit that milestone.
Helping The Tortured Poets Department rack up what must be millions—if not tens of millions—of plays on Spotify is the album’s lengthy tracklist. The set was originally 16 songs long, but it didn’t take Swift long before she unveiled more music.
At 2:00 AM EST, just two hours after The Tortured Poets Department arrived on streaming platforms, Swift shocked those who were still awake. She nearly doubled the length of the project, adding another 15 songs to what she’s dubbed The Anthology—essentially a deluxe edition of the title.
All those streams will help The Tortured Poets Department score a massive debut on the Billboard charts in a week. It may have already earned enough plays to open at No. 1 on a number of lists, but it’s just getting started. It’s likely that Swift’s latest will earn the top streaming debut of 2024 after its first seven days are through.
