Kelly Clarkson forced to issue apology to Olympics fans as she says ‘I’m so sorry I’m trying to hold it together’
During the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, Kelly Clarkson was moved to tears and she couldn’t stop apologizing for it.
The Breakaway singer watched in awe as Celine Dion made her comeback performance at the opening ceremony, her first performance after retreating from the limelight after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome.
Kelly Clarkson was filled with emotion and could not stop herself from crying after Celine Dion’s surprise performance at the 2024 Olympics. Celine has been dealing with health issues that have prevented her from singing, and that’s what made the American singer so emotional.
As Celine ended her performance, the announcers began to comment on the performance but Kelly could be heard saying, “I can’t speak,” because she was getting choked up.
“I’ve been inspired. I’ve been dancing. I was not ready for that ending. I’m so sorry you looked at me and I was like, ‘Wait,” she said when they returned from commercials, as she mimed tears rolling down her face.
She added: “If you know anything about Celine right now, she feels… this is her purpose,” she said as she held back tears.
“If you know anything about what she’s going through right now. I’m so sorry I’m trying to hold it together,” Kelly continued. “She got through that. That was incredible and in my field she is the gold winner for vocal athletes like she is incredible.”
Kelly’s co-hosts, Peyton Manning and Olympics primetime host Mike Tirico, consoled her. The singer tried to remain professional as she smiled and nodded.
Rumors of Celine performing at the French capital started when she was seen leaving a hotel on Tuesday. She was later seen on the streets of Paris joking along with fans and playing air guitar.
Celine took the stage at the end of the opening ceremony, dressed in a sparkly fringed white dress as she sang in French alongside a piano accompaniment. Fans, like Kelly, were overwhelmed seeing what the star has overcome.
