Taylor Swift’s Piano Malfunctions in Middle of Live Performance—and Fan Captures Her Reaction on Video
Life happens—and there are no exceptions, even for Taylor Swift.
In an unexpected twist during her second Eras Tour concert in Milan, Swift, 34, experienced a technical hiccup when things went awry with her piano. However, that proved to be no big deal for the mega pop star, who handled the issue like a pro.
It all went down when Swift surprised the audience with two special mashups during the secret song segment of her set. She began a mashup of “Getaway Car” from Reputation and “Out of the Woods,” but the performance was abruptly halted when the piano, adorned with colorful flowers, malfunctioned.
The 14-time Grammy winner, took the setback in stride. While a crew member quickly jumped in to troubleshoot the issue, Swift quipped, “You know what? We finally broke it. We have finally broken this thing,” as captured in a fan video shared on TikTok.
Swift then struggled slightly with closing the piano top before it shut and she exclaimed, “I did it!”
Swift wasted no time getting the show back on track, getting right back to her set list for the night.
This isn’t the first time the “Shake It Off” singer has encountered a snafu while on her record-breaking Eras Tour. Back in May, during the third night of her tour in Stockholm, Sweden, Swift had to briefly pause her show to address a technical glitch.
While grappling with a malfunctioning sound device on her dress, which had apparently come loose, a video shared on TikTok shows the singer head to the piano on stage.
“Talk amongst yourselves,” she says to her audience.
Attempting to resolve the issue, Swift unfastens her blue wrap dress, unveiling a sparkling black-and-gold ensemble beneath—her outfit for the new Tortured Poets Department segment of the show. Within moments, a crew member steps in to assist, and Swift seamlessly resumes her performance.
The Eras Tour has been nothing short of a musical marathon, with Swift kicking things off in the U.S. back in March 2023. She serenaded fans stateside until August before jet-setting to South America, Asia, Australia and Europe for the international leg. This tour is a deep dive into her entire career, featuring over 40 of her greatest hits.
Oh, and in case you missed it, she even turned the whole experience into a movie. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour hit screens in October 2023, letting fans relive the magic.
It’ll all come to end, though, in December when Swift closes out her venture in Canada.
